"Huia"

 is gemaakt van een zwarte kalksteen uit het noorden van Spanje. Het is ongeveeer 40 x 13 x 10 cm.

Dit beeld maakt deel uit van een serie van 13 uitgestorven vogels. Hiervan is ook een boekje gemaakt met foto's en de verhalen die de aanleiding tot de beelden vormden.

"I do not know of any more picturesque sight in New Zealand woods - now alas! the opportunities are becoming few and far between - than that of a small party of these handsome birds, playfully disporting  themselves among the branches, in intervals between their customary feeding times. Take for our purpose a dens piece of native  vegetation...and furnish it, in imagination, with two pairs...they are hopping actively from branch to branch, and at short intervals balance themselves and spread  to their full extent their broad white tipped tails..."                        (Walter Buller, 1905)
